時折り顕微鏡インキュベータのチャンバー内部を冷却したいというニーズが寄せられます。細胞を培養するには加温だけですがバクテリアや線虫などは温度を室温より下げることもあります。そんなとき、ペルチェユニットを設けたバージョンを用います。
ペルチェ素子は電気を流すと片面が冷たくなります。写真では見えないけどチャンバー内へ冷気を出すファンが付いています。反対面は逆に熱くなるので、ヒートシンクとファンで放熱します（写真で見えてる方）。室温23℃の時にチャンバー内部を18℃まで低下させるもので、キンキンに冷えるわけではないので、冷却と言うよりは常温付近を温度制御するといった手合いです。
ペルチェユニットが横にはみ出しているので設置できる顕微鏡は限られるし、用途も特定されます。それでもこれだけコンパクトでお手軽な装置は中々ないので、欲しい人にはハートを鷲掴みです。
